Getting into space is hard work and technologically demanding. There's no two ways about that so I am always a little sceptical when I hear of grand visions for creating businesses that exploit the space environment. In general private companies lack the financial resources of the world's largest state economies.
However times are changing....
LauncherOne
Virgin Galactic
SpaceX
All well on their way to commercialising access to (orbital) space at substantially lower prices than non-commercial governmental operators like ESA and NASA can provide. These all fill me with some sense of cautious optimism.
That Said Planetary Resources... maybe over reaching itself with its vision. For now. But then if nobody tries...
The next couple of decades should be quite interesting in this area.
